On Jan 20, 2026, Persian/Western fusion group Marvash will release their new single ‘doora’ on all major digital platforms. ‘Doora’ means ‘distance’ in Farsi, expressing the literal distance between leading members Siavash Kamkar سياوش كامكار (Tehran, IR) & DrummerMartijn (Utrecht, NL).
Marvash is an international world/jazz fusion project led by Iranian santur player Siavash Kamkar (Tehran) and Dutch drummer Martijn Soeterbroek (Utrecht). They have been collaborating since 2018, despite a physical distance of more than 5,000 kilometers. Their music bridges traditional Persian melodies with Western jazz fusion harmonies and grooves, featuring an unconventional approach to the santur.
Compared to earlier work, Doora reveals a more accessible and introspective side of Marvash. A striking element is the combination of acoustic guitar and santur – a rarely heard timbre – , which, together with subtle rhythmic elements and atmospheric textures, gives the piece its layered, warm character.
With Doora, Marvash also wishes to reflect on the recent events in Iran. Marvash expresses sympathy and solidarity and wishes peace and strength to all those affected.
Doora marks a new phase in Marvash’s artistic development and serves as a musical prelude to the band’s live ambitions. In 2026, Marvash will make its long-awaited stage debut as a full live band, alongside preparations for a next album.
